Orlando Watussi - Las Calaveras Blancas



One of the unsung heroes of Venezuelan salsa, sonero Orlando Castillo "Watussi" deserves a place in the pantheon of musical legends for a 40-year career in Latin music in which he has played with such international greats as Cortijo,Bobby Valentin, Joe Cuba, Kako, Larry Harlow, and salsa supergroup La Tipica '73.

A native of Marin, in Yaracuy State, Watussi's musical apprenticeship was with Federico y Su Combo Latino, before branching out and singing with Los Satelites, and Porfi Jimenez y su Orquesta.

In 1990 he made his UK debut with none other than the legendary mambo king Tito Puente.

In total, he has sung on over 60 albums by other artists and released seven albums of his own material.

"Las Calaveras Blancas" is a composition by Jose Mangual Jr and features on Watussi's album Barrio, produced by the Venezuelan record company Latin World.

Orlando "Watussi" is currently based in Milan, Italy.
